What programming language is ransomware written in?
Ransomware has been written in many languages, including C and C++ for performance, plus C#, Go, and Rust. Rust and Go have become popular with newer families because they are cross-platform and harder to analyze. Scripting languages such as PowerShell are also used during earlier attack stages.
The programming language is largely irrelevant to defenders focused on outcomes, because the result is the same: corrupted data. Elastio detects that corruption by inspecting inside files, independent of how the payload was built.
