Ransomware Basics

What is social engineering?

Social engineering manipulates people into divulging information or taking actions that compromise security — through phishing, pretexting, baiting, or impersonation. It targets human trust rather than technical flaws.

Because it exploits people, no technical control fully prevents it. Elastio assumes some attempts will succeed and ensures clean, provable recovery remains available.
